about

I’m the woman in the window,
And I live through all time
I record the stories
To pass on down my line
I’m who must remember
Without guilt or blame
History forgets me
But I won’t do the same

This albums contains stories of women.

Recorded on an HP Envy Convertible with a Steinburg CI-1, with a Sterling ST51 mic in my house. Mixed and mastered by Tasha Parker Gibbs . There are so many others I want to credit, it would be a much shorter list to say who I didn't credit. I do want to point out some particular people.

Thank you to my brother, Jay Parker, because without him, I would have given up music entirely, and I think that might be a *really bad thing* for me to do.

Thank you to Skye and Ayancia for listening and listening and listening.

Thank you to my best friend, Stephanie, who inspires me to keep going even when I really don't want to.

Thank you to Charles and Britt for everything, literally.

Thank you to my FAWM friends. Here's to jumping off cliffs without nets and flying.

Thank you to Starlight Filk Band for welcoming me back.

I could type all day, but I want to get this album out.

Shine on, crazy diamonds.

Track Name: Woman in the Window
I’m the woman in the window,
And I live through all time
I record the stories
To pass on down my line
I’m who must remember
Without guilt or blame
History forgets me
But I won’t do the same

I watched from a lunette
when my kingdom’s troops fell
I was the only survivor
The battle was bloody hell
I never feared for my life
For I know the task at hand
But all I’m allowed is to watch
I cannot take a stand

I watched from a porthole
As my family waved goodbye
Smoke billowed from the tall stacks
And clouded up the sky
And then I watched intently
As Lady Liberty went by
But I had to write the chapter
There was no time to cry

I looked out thru bars
While you tortured my tribe
I look out through train cars
On my midnight ride
I watched from the quarters
As the war came to an end
I watched from the choppers
As you left behind my friends

I watch from the grassy knoll
I watched from minarets
I’ve seen a million horrid acts
I’d just as soon forget
My job’s not to interfere
And that’s the hardest part
Because lately every word I write
Devastated my heart

I’m the woman in the window,
And I live through all time
I record the stories
To pass on down my line
Someone has to remember
Without guilt or blame
History forgets me
But I won’t do the same
Track Name: Good Woman
I’m a handful
A high maintenance bitch
Demanding, insulting
A real wicked witch
With a body made in heaven
And a soul forged in hell
But I’m a Good Woman
And I could love you so well

I’m delightful
The life of the place
I’m refreshing
Like a slap to the face
With the smile of an angel
And a heart made of sin
And I’m a strong woman
So I’ll always win

I am so very many things
But I promise you I’m not
Your housewife in the kitchen
Making your supper in a pot
I will not do your laundry
Won’t find me scrubbing floors
And love, I don’t do windows
And I never open doors

I’m intriguing
Like a train wreck
Annoying, provoking,
A pain in the neck
With an argument for everything
And nothing of fact
But I’m a loyal woman
And I got your back

I’m a loner
Don’t need a man
Inventive, creative
I do what I can
I don’t need no one to save me
I can do it on my own
But I’m an honest woman
Who hates living all alone

I am so very many things
But I promise you I’m not
Your housewife in the kitchen
Making your supper in a pot
I will not do your laundry
Won’t find me scrubbing floors
And lover, I don’t do windows
And I never open doors!!
Track Name: A Dime A Dozen
Lyrics:
A dime a dozen or a penny a pound
you nickle and dime me all over town
down in the quarter my spare change is gone
not even a token to get me around
you take all my money and you leave me alone
but I'll always forgive you baby please come home

A dime a dozen or a penny a pound
there's guys like you boy the world around
wanna stay single, won't marry a wife
just live off of others the rest of your life
you eat all the supper and leave me the crusts
but I'll always forgive you baby please come home

I been thinking I should change the locks but
I'd let him in any time he knocks
My friends keep saying I should move on
and I really try but it doesn't last long

A dime a dozen or a penny a pound
I wish I never heard the sound
of your boots on my front step
All your visits I've come to regret
Ya take me for granted and leave me for broke
but I'll always forgive you baby please come home
Track Name: Back-up Ride to Hell
He was gonna meet me here tonight
But I’m guessing there was no flight
After 20 years, he probably couldn’t leave
And with Four hours of sitting here
Downing overpriced airport beer
I’m figuring out my next web to weave

Seems it always ends up this way, but hey
cutie why you sittin so far away
Bet there’s trouble we could get into
For a couple hours, just me and you
We could get a room across the street
And slide right in between those sheets
The road to heaven didn’t go so well
So tonight, I need a back-up ride to hell

Now I don’t see no wedding ring
And you’re here alone, So here’s the thing
In the morning, I won’t care who you are
Don’t try to chat, it’ll just be boring
And in a while, when I’m snoring
Just grab your clothes and get on out the door

Seems it always ends up this way, but hey
cutie why you sittin so far away
Bet there’s trouble we could get into
For a couple hours, just me and you
We could get a room across the street
And slide right in between those sheets
The road to heaven didn’t go so well
So tonight, I need a back-up ride to hell

You’ve got to go and catch your plane?
Oh Geez, well that’s a shame
I was really hoping this would go my way
Oh wait, look over there
That guy with the long blonde hair
Hey, cutie, why ya sittin so far away

Seems it always ends up this way, but hey
cutie why you sittin so far away
Bet there’s trouble we could get into
For a couple hours, just me and you
We could get a room across the street
And slide right in between those sheets
The road to heaven didn’t go so well
So tonight, I need a back-up ride to hell
Track Name: I'm On My Way
Can't do this anymore
It’s time for walkin out the door
But it’s nothing with you
My dear, it’s everything with me
Gypsy pull getting stronger
And welcomes wear out way too soon

Don’t box me in, just set me free
I don’t belong to you and you don’t belong to me
And that’s how it needs to be
I'm on my way

We had some fun,
But all good times have to end
It’s not so bad, at least I’m leavin as your friend
And i’ll call you sometime
And maybe I’ll come back again

Don’t box me in, just set me free
I don’t belong to you and you don’t belong to me
And that’s how it needs to be
I'm on my way

Please don’t look so sad
It’s not like I mean to hurt you so
But I can’t stay here living in your dream I’ve got to go
I can’t stay another night
It just wouldn’t be right

Don’t box me in, just set me free
I don’t belong to you and you don’t belong to me
And that’s how it needs to be
I'm on my way
Track Name: Rainbows don't have jagged edges
Pardon for the interruption
I don’t wanna make a commotion
But the sign out front said anyone could talk
Now I know I'm brand new in town
But I’ve seen a lot here and around
Let me speak my peace, then I will walk

I’m a seeker who is traveling
Don’t know much of anything
But I'm comfy with “ignorance is bliss”
I'm on a quest of mental health
Instructed to go find myself
Because I have a certain “Otherness”

I guess I’d been walking about 10 days
When up the road, through the haze
I saw a big gate with a little sign
Such bright colors everywhere
Like a rainbow mist in the air
“Everyone is welcome!” said the sign

But I was directed to a table
For screening to see if I was able
To fit in, then they handed me a pen
And a list of rules and an application
Which I filled out with resignation
And wrote in “other” on the line

But my other wasn’t other enough
They got rude and really rough
Yelled at me that I was just pretending
I tried to explain, they wouldn’t understand
And I'd lost the urge to lend a hand
So I packed up my guitar and hit the road.

Next three towns were more of the same
I wondered why I ever came
On this quest to become self aware
And now I’ve arrived here
And it’s more of the same, I fear
And I see more things for which I do not care

You see
Rainbows don’t have jagged edges
And if you keep on buildin hedges
You’ll lock yourselves up tigther than a drum
You say that you are so inclusive
As long as all are unobtrusive
And buddy, from that no good will come!

I'm not saying you have to love me
Just don’t put yourself above me
Your other is not my other, but that’s okay
So what ya say we stop dividing
And forcing each other back into hiding
We can love each other and still disagree

-----

Thank you all now I’ll be goin
Looks like the sky is showing
Rain ahead, but that don't get me down
Cuz after rain, there is a rainbow
And I'm happy cuz I know
Somewhere the colors fade into one.
Track Name: Caught in the Overflow
First there’s a crisis
There’s always a crisis
Never a cure
For your drama du jour
You say I go off script
You’re givin a guilt trip
Somebody screwed up
And someone will pay

Caught in the overflow
Stuck in the undertow
You leave no way to know
Which way to go
Caught in the overflow
Waiting for the dam to blow
I pray it doesn’t show
The weight of it all
Is killing me

Yeah, you’re the victim
Always the victim
Alone and defenceless
No one could care less
injustice singer
Pointin a finger
You didn’t do nothin
They did it to you

Caught in the overflow
Stuck in the undertow
You leave no way to know
Which way to go
Caught in the overflow
Waiting for the dam to blow
I pray it doesn’t show
The weight of it all
Is killing me

I didn’t even see
When you put that collar on me
Can’t go, can’t stay
Let the flood take me away

Caught in the overflow
Stuck in the undertow
You leave no way to know
Which way to go
Caught in the overflow
Waiting for the dam to blow
I pray it doesn’t show
The weight of it all
Is killing me
Track Name: He's Just People Mama
Lyrics:
Baby baby you best not date him
You know your daddy’s only gonna hate him
It’s not allowed, rules forbid it
Give it up, baby just forget it
You know you gotta stick with your own kind
not smart enough to make up your own mind
Better shape up and get with the picture
Or you’re gonna get another lecture

He’s just People, mama….just like you and me
I can’t see, mama, why you can’t let us be
(You’ve held) the hate in heart you were taught
And I bet you don’t even know why
He’s just people momma...and I’ll love him till I die

Baby baby you gonna come home soon
Baby baby you better be home soon
Neighborhood gossip going down
You’re with him all over town
The preacher says you gotta let him go now
You two together just aint right now
You’re going places you can’t handle
And our family doesn’t need a scandle

He’s just People, mama….just like you and me
I can’t see, mama, why you can’t let us be
(You’ve held) the hate in heart you were taught
And I bet you don’t even know why
He’s just people momma...and I’ll love him till I die

Baby baby you really disappoint us
Baby baby don’t do this to us
You’re dad and I gave you everything
He’s probably too poor to even buy a ring
That kinda boy never makes it to college
You’ll end up living in the projects
On the welfare with all the rejects
Future’s over and your life will be wrecked.

He’s just People, mama….just like you and me
I can’t see, mama, why you can’t let us be
(You’ve held) the hate in heart you were taught
And I bet you don’t even know why
He’s just people momma...and I’ll love him till I die

Mama you’re scared and saying what you were told
But you’re Stuck in your ways, you’re hateful and old
If you could see past the nose on your face
The times are changing, get up with the pace…..

.He’s just People, mama….just like you and me
I can’t see, mama, why you can’t let us be
(You’ve held) the hate in heart you were taught
And I bet you don’t even know why
He’s just people momma...and I’ll love him till I die
Track Name: I'm Mad as Hell at You
Middle of the night I should be sleeping
But the loneliness comes creeping
I think it’s time I sell our king sized bed
And the schedule I’ve been keeping
Don’t leave much time for weeping
Or sorting out all this stuff in my head

Can't find joy, can’t find the sadness
The only thing I feel is crushing madness
And nothing I have tried can shake it free
Beginning to think the best days I had
Were when the kids still had their dad
And I had my soul mate next to me

Cuz I'm mad as hell at you
But you’re not here to yell at
And no one seems to get it
They don’t know what to say
You said we’d never part
you’d never break my heart
I can’t do this all alone
And it’s not fair you’re never coming home

It ain’t right, tossing and turning
My emotions keep on churning
Is this crazy roller coaster ever gonna end
And my anger keeps on burning
But for your tender arms I'm yearning
You were my lover and my best friend

Cuz I'm mad as hell at you
But you’re not here to yell at
And no one seems to get it
They don’t know what to say
You said we’d never part
you’d never break my heart
I can’t do this all alone
And it’s not fair you’re never coming home
Track Name: Penny Memories
v.1
Flat faces, confined in dark places
No light left in their eyes
That spark was frozen long ago
Committed to paper
in days gone by

v.2
From old guitars and fondue pots
To the Carrizozo camping lot
Old motels and dusty rest stops
I've been tilting at windmills
Like it or not

Chorus
I've got boxes and binders
Full of these things
Of old friends, good times,
And diamond rings,
of old cars and bonfires late in the night…
My mind and these pictures don't match up right

v.3
I have to get to the point, but you see
It's like this bad road throughout my years
With yelling and screaming
Snide remarks about dreaming
And spilled milk, salted heavily with tears

v.4
And I've been told I didn't see what happened
And what happened that I didn't see
I don't know what is real anymore
Or who I was born to be

Chorus
I've got boxes and binders
Full of these things
Of old friends, good times,
And diamond rings,
of old cars and bonfires late in the night…
My mind and these pictures don't match up right

v.5
So I sit here selling my memories
in the sun, snow and Rain
I hope they bring better smiles to you
But to me
they only bring pain

I'm selling them all at a bargain
penny memories - a nickle for ten
it's all I got but just take the whole lot
I never want to see them again........

Chorus
I've got boxes and binders
Full of these things
Of old friends, good times,
And diamond rings,
of old cars and bonfires late in the night…
My mind and these pictures don't match up right
Track Name: Too Hard To Say No
worn out on conversation
I'm just sitting in my car
I need a new direction
one that takes me far
Maybe starting over
daydreams of a brand new life
on my own where I'm nobody's wife

radio plays "take it easy"
And if I don't I'm gonna blow
So I'm gonna sit here till I'm calmer
I got no where else to go
I give you all I have to offer
but it's never quite enough
but what was I to do
you make it too hard to say no

that weekend at the ocean
bay windows and four poster bed
your iron grip around me
and your pretty words all in my head
you promised you'd forgive me
for everything you had to do
so signed across the dotted line
and I gave myself to you

radio played "take it easy"
but we didn't take anything slow
crazy whirwind of emotions
made it easy to let go
I hadn't planned to stay the night
but you said it was alright
let the record show
you made it too hard to say no

At least I never cheated
At least I never lied
and I bottled up my feelings
kept em deep in side
This ain't love we're living in
I'm just your trophy on a chain
But you can't hold me anymore
I won't be owned again

radio plays "take it easy"
but it's too late to take it slow
couldn't listen anymore, love
Time is up, I've got to go
and my memory's kinda foggy
But there is one thing I know
When you asked if I was leaving
you made it too hard to say no
Track Name: My Hope for You
You'd think I would be bitter
But that's not the case
That would require judgement
And baby, that's not my place
Yeah, it's true, we've parted,
We've gone our separate ways
But I have nothing but hope for you
Throughout all your days

I hope the next person that you love
Is way smarter than me
I hope the energy you put out
Comes back to you times three
I hope you have a ton a kids
And they grow up just like you
I hope you get all you deserve
That's what I hope for you

So I say sincerely
And without regret
If I have a stitch of hurt
I haven't found it yet
I've thought about it bunches
Since you left me behind
I hope you find the life you want
Cuz without you, i've found mine

I hope the next person that you love
Is way smarter than me
I hope all the energy you put out
Comes back to you times three
I hope you have a ton a kids
And they grow up just like you
I hope you get all you deserve
That's what I hope for you

I thought I'd be so helpless
and not know what to do
You see, I'd built who I was
entirely round you
but you know I hold no anger
then again I hold no fear
I"m doing better than I ever was
And it's cuz you're not here

I hope the next person that you love
Is way smarter than me
I hope all the energy you put out
Comes back to you times three
I hope you have a ton a kids
And they grow up just like you
I hope you get all you deserve
That's what I hope for you
